Maximize Your Ductless Heating Pump With These Tips

As you rely on your ductless heat pump throughout the winter season, do you ever think about how you can maximize its performance? There are effective ways to do this, even if you’ve had it installed for years. Air Quality Heating & Air Conditioning shares what you need to do here:

Set the right indoor temperature. The thermostat sensors for your ductless heat pump aren’t usually placed on the wall like most thermostats. They’re installed much closer to the ceiling because this is where the air is typically warmer. While you can still adjust your temperature settings until you find the ones most suited for your home’s interior, it’s recommended that temperatures be set at 70 or 72 degrees to keep your rooms comfy.

Clear out excess snow and ice. Throughout the winter season, snow and ice will pile up on the outdoor component of your ductless heat pump. When they do, they must be cleared off, otherwise other debris such as leaves can reduce its efficiency. Excess snow and ice will affect your unit in the same way as they would any other heating and air conditioning system, as it will have to work harder than necessary to pump in more heated air. This means it will consume more energy and lead to higher energy bills.

Clean and replace the filters. Your ductless heat pump’s air filters should be clean to ensure your indoor air stays clean throughout the season. The filters in your ductless heat pump are smaller than that of a traditional unit, so they tend to get dirty more quickly. Make sure to clean or replace them regularly, depending on how often you use your unit.
