A Simple Checklist to Prepare Your HVAC for Fall

As the temperatures begin to drop, you’ll need to prepare your home for the colder months ahead. The last thing you want is an HVAC system that suddenly breaks down while in use, which can affect your indoor comfort during the fall and winter seasons. Our heating and air conditioner technicians at Air Quality Heating & Air Conditioning share a quick HVAC checklist in preparation for the upcoming season:

Adjust Your Thermostat

Fall temperatures can be much lower during nighttime, which means you get a cooler interior. Humidity levels are also lower compared to the summer months. This can lead to chills overnight or in the mornings, so you’ll need to adjust your thermostat accordingly to add more heat and comfort to your home.

Schedule a Maintenance Check

Another way to ensure your system runs smoothly during fall and winter is to schedule a professional service check by the end of summer. You can also try doing this on your own, but it won’t be as thorough as one conducted by a trusted heating and air conditioning technician. They have the knowledge and experience to troubleshoot any issues they may find and make the right adjustments to ensure your heating system runs in peak condition.

Clean or Change the HVAC Filters

Clogged HVAC filters restrict airflow coming into your heating system, compromising air circulation. This can lead to inefficient heating and increased energy consumption. Make sure to clean or replace your air filters so that your home’s indoor air quality remains at an acceptable level before fall begins!

Clear the Debris Around Your Unit

Have you noticed any fallen leaves, twigs, and other debris around your outdoor HVAC unit? Vegetation may have also grown over the last months while weathering through mostly sunny weather with the occasional rainfall and storms. All of these can impede the overall performance of your HVAC system, particularly its blower fan and evaporator coils. Make sure to clear them out thoroughly so that it’s ready before fall begins.
