States Set Standards For Energy-Smart Future

According to a new paper issued by the National Governors Association, also known as the NGA, states have been instrumental in promoting advance energy efficiency. State governors are investing their efforts into teaching consumers how to increase energy efficiency. Governors are also investing funds in the private sector not only to help produce energy-smart products, but to also assist businesses in developing environmentally friendly manufacturing and operation.

By increasing the focus on saving power, governors are determined to help consumers lower their energy costs. States are encouraging consumers to apply energy-saving techniques in their homes and work in order to reduce monthly utility bills. In addition to decreasing costs, consumers also lower their power consumption, which eliminates the need to create new power plants and cuts down the negative impact that these plants can have on the environment.

Business plays a major role in the amount of energy a state consumes every year. This is why governors are teaming up with regulatory bodies and other law makers in developing and improving energy efficiency rules and standards. More and more businesses are changing the way products are manufactured, the type of products produced, as well as the structure of factories and buildings.

By influencing industries, both the state and the private sector stand to benefit. On one side, the state reduces its expenditures on power. On the other, industries receive incentives and financing from the state in order to comply with new energy regulations. Mechanisms are being put in place to make sure businesses can maintain the same level of productivity and profits while prioritizing the energy agenda.

Another important advantage of the combined efforts between the state and industries is that costs for both are kept to a minimum. If energy consumption is low, investments that are usually assigned to building new power plants can be deferred. Studies also show that businesses that apply energy-conscious processes and techniques are likely to save money in the long term.

Although the energy agenda has been on the political table for decades, it is fast becoming more of a priority than an option. States are partnering with universities and private organizations to conduct in-depth research into power-saving techniques. There are also a growing number of initiatives aimed at educating consumers and businesses about conserving this important resource. Governors are also turning to information technology as a tool for creating innovative power solutions.

Energy efficiency holds many advantages for consumers, the state and industries. In addition to lowering yearly energy costs, intelligent use of power can protect the environment and foster sustainable habits for future generations. Although this topic requires further and deeper research, every initiative taken to advance energy efficiency is a step towards a brighter future.
